On August 27, 2018, a 32-year-old Oxford University student married herself on her birthday, setting the internet on fire.
Lulu Jemimah, a Ugandan lady, staged a last-minute wedding at Quepasa Bar in Uganda’s capital, Kampala, which perplexed her parents.
According to the Daily Mail, Lulu was fed up with her parents always bothering her about marriage, which was the last thing on her mind.
Lulu, who was pursuing a master’s degree in creative writing at the time, stated that she was exclusively interested in becoming an academic. In her own words:
‘I have a tremendous interest in life and am dedicated to reaching my academic goals. “But all my family wanted to know was when I planned to marry, which is highly significant in Uganda, and when I planned to have children and start a family.”
“My father wrote my wedding speech when I was 16,” she continued. My mother prayed for me every birthday, and in recent years, this has included a request for a good husband.
‘But I didn’t want to think about walking up the aisle,’ she said. It’s not what keeps me awake at night.”….CONTINUE READING
