This incident occurred in the Soshanguve township, located to the north of Pretoria. Authorities were alerted to the situation when students began showing signs of nausea, stomach cramps, and vomiting.
The Gauteng Education Member of the Executive Council (MEC), Matome Chiloane, has expressed deep concern and assured the public that investigations are ongoing. He said, “This situation is concerning for us, and we request patience from parents as investigations continue and the affected learners recover. We encourage students to be cautious about what they buy and consume, and to be mindful of the sources of their food. We wish all the affected learners a speedy recovery.”
The students involved in this incident range in age from six to 14 years old. It is alleged that they purchased the suspected cannabis-laced muffins from a street vendor on their way to school. Teachers became alarmed when they noticed unusual behavior among the students in their classrooms and promptly called emergency services for assistance.
Local law enforcement was also summoned to further investigate the situation and to identify the suspected vendor responsible for selling these muffins to the young students….CONTINUE READING
