Fastest Way to Boost Your Brain and Memory

I’m Alex, a psychophysiologist and writer from Ukraine. Currently, my country is at war, and many people are suffering from psychological trauma and PTSD — post-traumatic stress disorder. This is a serious problem that often leads to deterioration of brain and overall health.

Unfortunately, my city is in the combat zone. Every day we hear the sounds of nearby explosions and read sad news about destruction and people’s deaths in local online communities.

For me, the best way to get through tough times is to continue working. Remember what Viktor Frankl wrote? Those who survive are those who focus on their current affairs, without waiting for something else bad to happen.

So, if there is electricity and internet, I keep writing articles for medical journals and communicating a lot. My brain must function!

I also continue to practice psychophysical techniques such as yoga, meditation, and so on.

In this post, I want to tell you about a wonderful exercise from Pranayama. It’s called Kapalabhati. This breathing technique helps me to keep my mental balance and high productivity.

After this exercise, the work of the brain is really activated, and memory begins to work better. Kapalbhati can help you calm your mind, relieve worries and anxiety. Your mental well-being, your mood and physical health will improve.

Sometimes people refer to Kapalabhati as Breath of Fire. This is an aerobic exercise that powerfully stimulates the metabolism. It enhances the supply of oxygen to the cells of the brain and body. It’s kind of like an oxygen cocktail.

To do Kapalabhati, you should just sit on a chair and start breathing in a special way. It is forced breathing. To breathe, you will have to use your willpower and abdominal muscles. An important feature of Kapalbhati is the rate of breathing movements. It must be very high. Here is a video where I show you how to do it.

By the way, research by American and Indian scientists has shown that thanks to Kapalbhati, the work of the autonomic nervous system and neurotransmitters is normalized. This helps relieve emotional tension and reduce stress levels. Your brain and your whole body starts to work better.
