However, among the South Sudanese Latuka tribe, there’s a distinct tradition. Here, a man must abduct the woman he wishes to marry, eventually informing her family of his intentions.

To carry out this unique practice, the suitor must enlist the help of other men to capture the desired woman. Once captured, she is taken to the suitor’s home, where she remains until her father is informed. Interestingly, the father must then physically challenge the suitor, demonstrating his approval of the union.

Subsequently, the suitor visits the lady’s father with his friends to formally request consent for marriage. The father can either accept or decline. Strikingly, after the wedding, it’s customary for the groom to confront his father-in-law.
